SIRT Diet

The SIRT diet is one of the latest diet crazes that so many people seem to be talking about.

According to researchers, these special foods work by activating specific proteins in the body called sirtuins.

The most common of the SIRT FOODS are 
  • Green Tea
  • Dark Chocolate

Composition of a Sirt Diet


The diet as designed by Aidan Goggins and  Glen Matten has two distinct phases:

Phase 1 lasts for only one week. Calories are restricted to 1000kcal for three days.  This is done by drinking three sirtfood green juices and one meal each day.  The meal is rich in sirtfoods.  The juices usually include kale, celery, rocket, parsley, green tea and lemon.  Typical meals are turkey escalope with sage, capers and parsley, chicken and kale curry and prawn stir fry with noodles.

From days four to seven,  the intake is  increased to 1500kcal, invariably comprising two sirtfood green juices and two meals rich in sirtfood each day.

Phase 2 is the maintenance phase and it last for 14 days. In Phase 2 the weight continues to reduce, but steadilly.

The Sirt Diet's designers claim it is a sustainable and realistic way to reduce weight. They say that weight loss is not the prime focus of the diet  and that it has been designed to use the best foods nature has to offer.  They recommend a longer term diet which involved eating THREE balanced sirtfood rich meals every day with one of the prescribed SIRT food green juices.


Dietician Emer Delaney, commenting on the BBC web site says:
" Aiming to have 1000kcal for three consecutive days is extremely difficult and I believe the majority of people would be unable to achieve it."

Elmer say that  list of foods are the usual sort of items that are often included on a ‘healthy food list' but it would be better to encourage these as part of a healthy balanced diet. 

"Having a glass of red wine or a small amount of chocolate occasionally won’t do us any harm, although I wouldn’t recommend them on a daily basis."

"We should also be eating a mixture of different fruits and vegetables and not just those on the list."
